Lakkundi Gram Sabha Recommends Education Aid for Boy Who Returned Buried Treasure
The decision was taken at a special gram sabha held to discuss this topic on January 22 where the family’s gesture was described as lawful, selfless and in the larger public interest

Gadag: A special gram sabha convened at Lakkundi on Thursday unanimously recommended free educational support for Prajjwal Ritti and the allotment of a residential site to his family. The decision was taken in recognition of his honesty in voluntarily handing over gold found while digging the foundation of their house to the government.
The decision was taken at a special gram sabha held to discuss this topic on January 22 where the family’s gesture was described as lawful, selfless and in the larger public interest.
Treating the matter as a special humanitarian case, the gram sabha resolved to recommend free educational support for Prajwal Ritti and the allotment of a site to his mother, Kasturiyavva Basavaraj Ritti, in accordance with government norms, citing social justice and compassion.
The recommendation follows a review meeting chaired by Law, Justice, Human Rights, Parliamentary Affairs, Legislation and Tourism Minister and Gadag district in-charge minister HK Patil on January 18, 2026, and oral directions issued by Nargund MLA CC Patil during his visit to the family on January 12, 2026. It also refers to an earlier communication from the Taluk Panchayat on housing matters.
Based on the gram sabha resolution, the Lakkundi Gram Panchayat has written to the Executive Officer of the Gadag Taluk Panchayat to conduct the required verification and initiate further action for allotment of the site as per rules.
Taking steps to ensure that Prajwal’s act of honesty becomes an inspiration for other children, the special gram sabha resolved to display Prajwal’s photograph along with a brief note highlighting his integrity in all schools falling under the Lakkundi Gram Panchayat limits.
Prajjwal’s mother, expressing relief and hope, said the family had been living in constant anxiety until now.
Speaking on the occasion, Gram Panchayat president Kenchappa Poojar said that government housing schemes alone would not be sufficient for the poor Ritti family to construct a house.
“We will urge the MLA, the district in-charge minister, and the district administration to extend financial assistance of at least Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh to help the family build a house,” he said.
