Kundapur: Heated Phone Argument Ends In Murder, Accused On The Run

Udupi: A 34-year-old man was allegedly shot dead at Kundapur in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Ivan. Police have named Derik Crasta as the accused and launched a manhunt to trace him.
According to the police, the two had a heated phone conversation at around 11.45 pm on Thursday over money. The discussion escalated into a quarrel, during which Derik allegedly challenged Ivan to come alone to Kundapur.
Derik shared his location with Ivan at around 1.30 am. Following this Ivan drove to the spot and parked his car on the concrete road opposite Holy Rosary Church on Church Road.
Derik is said to have arrived in a black-and-red Mahindra Thar around 3.15 am and stopped in front of Ivan's vehicle. As Ivan stepped out of his car, Derik allegedly fired a single shot from a firearm, hitting him below the waist, before fleeing the scene in the SUV.
Ivan collapsed on the road after sustaining gunshot injuries to his waist and leg and died at the scene due to excessive bleeding, police said.
Investigators suspect that longstanding differences over financial and other business dealings between the two led to the murder.
A case has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and Sections 3 and 25 of the Indian Arms Act.
Police have formed three special teams to trace Derik Crasta.
