Jhansi: A 27-year-old woman from Karnataka was arrested in a case of alleged blackmail and extortion in Prayagraj on Friday, police said.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Simran Singh said the woman, Marina Lazarus alias Marina Jassi, a resident of Hubballi in Karnataka, was arrested in Prayagraj.

She allegedly used artificial intelligence to create fake videos and blackmail the family of a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official.

The case was registered on a complaint filed on August 2 by Ankita Bhardwaj, wife of Jhansi RPF Commandant Jitendra Sharma.

She alleged that Marina had been sending fake videos generated using AI to blackmail the family and had already extorted around Rs 40,000. The accused was allegedly demanding another Rs 15 lakh from the family.

The police said Sharma had earlier also lodged a complaint against the woman and some people allegedly associated with a purported channel in connection with the matter.
