Karnataka To Promote Industries In Tier-2, Tier-3 Cities To Curb Migration
Government Announces Incentives, CSR Schools And Employment Initiatives To Boost Regional Growth
Kalaburagi:: Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said the state government has decided to encourage the establishment of industries in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities to reduce migration from rural areas to urban centres.
Addressing reporters after the Kalaburagi Divisional-level Progress Review Meeting, Shivakumar said the government would offer an additional premium FAR of 0.6 and permit double FAR to attract industrial investment in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. This will allow industrialists to get land at lower rates. Necessary amendments would be brought in by the Urban Development Department, he said.
"People from rural areas migrate to cities in search of jobs. Our aim is to generate employment where they live itself so that such migration can be reduced," he said.
As part of the education initiative, the government plans to establish 2,000 CSR-funded schools at the gram panchayat level. Companies will be encouraged to invest Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore each to construct school buildings and provide infrastructure, while the government will issue separate guidelines for teacher recruitment.
Shivakumar stated that the government has formulated a programme called Yuva Udyoga Setu to function as an employment exchange for private sector jobs.
Under the scheme, companies seeking to recruit employees can identify skilled candidates through the Yuva Setu platform.
The government, through the Skill Development Department, will provide training to candidates based on industry requirements.
He said industries would be advised to give preference to local candidates to a certain extent, though the government would not interfere in the recruitment process.
The percentage of preference to local candidates would be decided after discussions with representatives of industry and company managements.
