Bengaluru: More than 18.8 lakh SIR notices have not been delivered to the voters in Karnataka, while the last day of hearing is on Saturday, September 12.
According to the statement issued by the ECI, more than 24.97 lakh notices have been delivered to electors as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, the CEO's office said on Friday.
The state has 4,46,58,413 electors on the electoral roll as of September 10, comprising 2.21 crore male, 2.24 crore female and 2,874 transgender electors, it said.
The notices have been issued to electors whose names fall under the 'no mapping' and 'anomalies' categories as part of the electoral roll revision exercise, officials said.
According to a statement issued by the chief electoral officer's office, a total of 43,81,760 notices had been generated across the state as of September 10.
Of these, 24,97,075 notices had been successfully delivered, while 18,84,685 were yet to be delivered, resulting in an overall delivery rate of 56.99 per cent.
"With regard to hearings, 7,03,710 (28.18 per cent) hearings have been completed out of the delivered notices, while 17,93,365 hearings are pending," it said.
The last hearing will be conducted on September 12, while September 22 is the last date for disposal of claims and objections, the CEO's office said.
Following requests from registered and recognised political parties, the lists of persons to whom notices have been issued under the 'no Mapping' and 'anomalies' categories were published on September 5 on the CEO's website.
Details of claims and objections received from the public have been published on the website, as well.
A second special campaign for registration of electors will be held on September 19 and 20 in accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission of India.
According to officials, the chief electoral officer held a video conference with all district election officers and electoral registration officers on September 9 to review the progress of voter enrolment.
Necessary directions were issued to ensure the timely delivery of notices and completion of hearings, they said.
The CEO's office said it had received several queries from electors who were unable to find their names in the same part of the draft electoral roll where they had been registered earlier.
It clarified that the part and serial numbers may have changed due to the rationalisation of polling stations and re-serialisation of electors.
"Electors who are unable to find their names in the previous parts are therefore requested to search using their EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) number on voters.eci.gov.in or through the ECINET mobile application," it said.
A memorandum was issued on September 11 to all district election officers, directing them to issue necessary instructions to electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers.
The EROs and AEROs were asked to permit an adult family member of a senior citizen, PwD, sick or overseas elector to appear in person before them on the elector's behalf and submit the required documents or information for disposal of notices issued to such electors, it added.
