Karnataka School Headmaster Suspended for Transporting Students in Tipper, Pickup

Mangaluru: The in-charge headmaster of a government school in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada district was placed under suspension on Thursday for ferrying students in a tipper and a pick-up vehicle for a field trip, in violation of safety norms.

The incident took place on February 9 at the Government Upgraded Higher Primary School in Balenja under the supervision of in-charge headmaster Kiran.

Following the viral video, the block education officer (BEO) of Belthangady visited the school and submitted a report to the deputy director of public instruction (DDPI) based on which Kiran was placed under suspension with immediate effect pending a departmental inquiry.

The DDPI told Deccan Chronicle that the headmaster was placed under suspension for dereliction of duty and for violation of the Karnataka State Child Rights Protection Act. Considering this incident as a violation of traffic and safety norms, a case has been registered at Venur police station.
