Karnataka: POCSO Accused Who Fled Afzalpur Police Station Re-Arrested

KALABURAGI: A 23-year-old man accused in a case under POCSO Act, who had escaped from Afzalpur police station in Kalaburagi district on Thursday, was re-arrested within a day, police said on Friday.
Manjunath (23) of Jevargi (B) village, who was arrested in Pune in connection with a case registered under the POCSO Act at Afzalpur police station was brought to the police station for interrogation when he allegedly escaped from custody during the early hours of Thursday.
Following this, departmental action was initiated against the police personnel on duty. While Head Constable Ravidas Kattimani, Police Constables Prashant and Shivanna were placed under suspension for alleged dereliction of duty, notices were issued to Afzalpur CPI Lakhan Masaguppi and PSI Somalinga Odeyar seeking their explanation over the incident.
Meanwhile the police registered a case and launched a search operation to find Manjunath. Three teams were constituted.
The police traced Manjunath to Tellunagi village and took him back into custody on Friday afternoon.
The Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu commended the officers and personnel involved in tracing and re-arresting the accused.
