Karnataka: Passenger Caught With Gold In Capsule Size Form At KIA

BENGALURU: A transit passenger found a novel way to smuggle gold converting into two capsule size forms (about 40 grams each), however, his effort went futile after he was caught with the gold smuggled in capsule size forms hidden in his mouth by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) near Bengaluru city on Wednesday.
Sources said a passenger identified as Mohamed Siraj landed at KIA from Dubai and was to board a flight to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. Siraj was to catch a flight to his destination Ghaziabad at 9. 20 am and he went through Terminal-1 where he was intercepted by CISF personnel on suspicion and a thorough examination of the passenger revealed the concealed gold in capsule size forms.
It is said the passenger concealed the smuggled gold converting it into two capsule size forms to escape from being caught while passing through a Body Scanner check at the KIA.
Sources said CISF posed a few queries to the passenger who fumbled to reply to them properly and growing suspicious, the passenger was subjected to a thorough examination when he admitted to the reported gold smuggling in capsule size forms.
When the CISF officer questioned him, Siraj stated “It weighs 40 grams (each)” and when officials weighed it was 82 grams combined. Later, the officer directed the passenger to remove and following the direction, Siraj spitted two capsule sized gold and the gold dropped onto his palm. The gold smuggled was seized and the passenger involved in the reported smuggling has been handed over to BIAL Police for further action.
