Karnataka: Opposition Leader Urges Speaker to Extend Winter Session

Ashoka pointed out that the session, which began in Belagavi on December 8 and is scheduled to conclude on December 19, had already lost two working days due to various reasons

Belagavi: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R Ashoka has urged Speaker UT Khader to extend the ongoing winter session of the Karnataka Legislature by another week, citing the need for detailed discussions on unresolved issues, including problems faced by North Karnataka and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker, Ashoka pointed out that the session, which began in Belagavi on December 8 and is scheduled to conclude on December 19, had already lost two working days due to various reasons. As a result, several pressing public issues remain undiscussed, he said.

Ashoka also posted the copy of his letter on X.

In the post Ashoka stated that the Chief Minister and concerned ministers are yet to respond to the issues related to North Karnataka raised by the legislators. He also flagged poor utilisation of funds across several government departments and said members required more time to debate these matters meaningfully.

Drawing attention to the law and order situation, the Opposition leader said there had been a noticeable decline across the state, warranting detailed discussion in the House.

He stressed that such serious and widespread issues required thorough debate and concrete solutions, and urged the Speaker to take an immediate decision on extending the session by one more week.
