Karnataka Opposes Centre’s Circular on Recalibration of Dispensing Machines

BENGALURU: Karnataka Government expressed its opposition to a circular issued by the Union Government to recalibrate fuel dispensing machines once in two-years instead of existing one-year recalibration. The opposition is over fears that consumers would not get the right amount of fuel for the amount paid.
“We will not implement a circular issued by the Union Government to recalibrate fuel dispensing machines from existing one year to two-years,” asserted Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Rizwan Arshad.
In a chat with reporters in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Rizwan Arshad said the decision not to implement the circular issued by the Union Government is keeping in mind the interests of consumers since consumers are not getting exact quantity of fuel for the price they pay for fuel and the Minister questioned the rationale of the Union Government in issuing a circular asking recalibration of fuel dispensing machines once in two-years.
“On what basis did the Union Government issue the circular to recalibrate fuel dispensing machines once in two-years,” he questioned and stated “We do not know.”
Continuing, he said, after the circular was issued, the State Government did a reality check on 805 fuel stations out of a total 5, 946 fuel stations across the State. Out of 805 inspected fuel stations, the Minister stated 101 fuel stations were found to be exceeding permissible error limits and cases have been booked against such fuel stations besides imposing a penalty on them.
768 other fuel stations, he said, were found to be functioning within permissible error limits. Even then, these bunks within permissible error limits must inform the officials concerned.
The Minister made it clear “We will not follow the circular of the Union Government because it affects the consumers.”
