The person identified as Nagendra (30) was reportedly upset with his girlfriend Ramya over a marriage proposal refusal which made him take the drastic step to end his life: Reports

BENGALURU: A horrific incident of a person blowing himself up in a rental car he was travelling with reportedly an explosive (crude bomb) he was carrying with him occurred on National Highway-4 passing through Sira taluk of Tumakuru at around 2 pm.
The person identified as Nagendra (30) was reportedly upset with his girlfriend Ramya over a marriage proposal refusal which made him take the drastic step to end his life and left his girlfriend injured in an attack carried out by him prior to him blowing up with an explosive. Nagendra and Ramya belong to Ankola in Uttara Kannada district.
The cab driver Praveen, an eye witness to the incident, stated Nagendra and Ramya boarded the car to reach their destination Ankola in Uttara Kannada district via Tumakuru. They left from Siddapura of Jayanagar in Bengaluru at around 11 am and on the way, Praveen said, the two looked comfortable until they reached a petrol bunk to fill fuel to the car near a big banyan tree on the National Highway in Kallambella.
Soon he witnessed trouble between the two and both started to quarrel in the car. In a fit of rage, Nagendra is said to have pulled out a knife and attacked Ramya in the head. By then, driver Praveen received a phone call reportedly from Ankola Police to stop the car immediately and brought to the notice of the cab driver “it was a kidnap case.”
Nagendra is said to have overheard the conversation and directed the car driver to continue the journey. However, the driver stopped the car and it was when Ramya was attacked severely by Nagendra, especially in her head.
Nagendra reportedly took out an explosive and tried to ignite it with his lighter but it was thwarted by Praveen. “Initially, I had no idea that it was explosive,” said the cab driver and stated he was alerted by Ramya that Nagendra carried an explosive.
While Nagendra was engaged in a conversation with the cab driver, Ramya managed to give Nagendra a slip. Later, Praveen too managed to escape while Nagendra pulled out another explosive carried by him and ignited it to blow himself up by sitting in the car. The car went into flames immediately.
Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V, visited the spot and Kallambella police have registered a case. Investigations are on.
