Karnataka Home Minister Granted Bail Over Derogatory Comments On RSS Case
The Court summoned Priyank Kharge and Mohammed Nalapad after finding a prima facie case for criminal defamation: Reports
BENGALURU: Karnataka Minister of Home Priyank Kharge was on Saturday granted bail by 42nd ACMM Court, Bengaluru in connection with a defamation case over his reported derogatory remarks against Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) posted a social networking site in October last year.
Along with Priyank Kharge, youth Congress leader Mohammad Nalapad was also given bail by the Court over his separate reported derogatory remarks against RSS on a YouTube channel. Subsequently, a private complaint was filed by RSS functionary A. Tejas, a resident of Siddapura, Bengaluru, alleging the statements of Kharge and Nalapad caused damages to the reputation of the RSS.
Earlier in the day, the Court allowed bail applications filed by Priyank Kharge and Mohammed Nalapad prior to granting them bail. Kharge and Nalapad appeared before the Court and moved their bail applications under section 478 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Priyank Kharge and Nalapad denied allegations made against them and sought trial in the case.
The Court stated accused persons are released on bail on executing personal bond of Rs 1,00,000/- with cash security of Rs 10,000 each. The case hearing is posted for September 19. The Court summoned Priyank Kharge and Mohammed Nalapad after finding a prima facie case for criminal defamation.
