Karnataka: Haveri Farmer Ends Life Over Debt, Crop Failure
Due to heavy rainfall this season, his crops failed, pushing him into severe financial distress

Haveri: A 27-year-old farmer from Dandgihalli village in Ranebennur taluk reportedly died by suicide following mounting debt and crop failure.
The deceased, identified as Lokesh, had been cultivating crops on 4 acres and 10 guntas of land registered in his father’s name for the past decade. He had taken a crop loan of Rs 45,000 from a nationalized bank and a tractor loan of Rs 8 lakh from a private bank, totaling about Rs 8.45 lakh.
Due to heavy rainfall this season, his crops failed, pushing him into severe financial distress. On October 25, around 3 pm, Lokesh allegedly consumed poison at his home. He was taken to Ranebennur Government Hospital and later shifted to Haveri District Hospital, where he died the following day.
A case has been registered at Ranebennur Police Station.
