Karnataka: Girl Dies, Two Injured As Tree Crashes Onto School Bus In Bantwal

MANGALURU: A six-year-old girl was killed, and two other children were injured after a large tree fell on a school bus near Kalletti Daivasthana in Barimaru village of Bantwal taluk, about 35 km from Mangaluru, on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Chiranvi (6).
According to police, the accident occurred around 5 pm when a Shri Rama School bus from Kalladka was dropping students at their homes after school. As the bus was passing near Kalletti Daivasthana, a large roadside tree collapsed onto the vehicle.
Chiranvi suffered fatal injuries in the incident, while two other children sustained injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Bantwal Rural Police have registered a case and taken up further investigation into the incident.
Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara has expressed shock and grief over the incident.
“The heavy wind and rain that lashed Bantwal caused a tree to fall on a school bus, resulting in the untimely death of a young girl, and several other children sustaining injuries—an accident that has caused profound shock and grief,” he posted on X.
“I have spoken with the district officials regarding the incident, and issued instructions to the district administration to provide appropriate compensation to the family of the deceased girl and to make arrangements for the necessary treatment of the injured children. In this hour of sorrow, our government stands with the affected families,” he said.
He added that he had also spoken with District In-Charge Minister UT Khader and requested him to personally oversee the relief and assistance efforts.
In a press statement, Health and Family Welfare Minister and Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister UT Khader has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.
The minister, who is currently in Chicago, USA, to participate in an official programme, spoke to the Deputy Commissioner over the phone immediately after learning about the incident.
He directed the district administration to ensure that government compensation is provided to the deceased child's family without delay.
Khader also instructed the authorities to provide all necessary medical treatment to the injured students at the government's expense and ensure they receive proper care.
