Karnataka: Eight Illegal Bangladeshi Migrants Found Working At Construction Site

Preliminary investigation revealed that the eight had allegedly entered India illegally about three months ago by crossing the international border through Murshidabad district in West Bengal: Reports

MANGALURU: Eight Bangladeshi nationals, who allegedly entered India illegally and had been working at a construction site near Mangaluru, have been identified by Surathkal police during a verification drive on Friday. The police officials have informed the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Bengaluru, for further action.

The inspection was carried out following specific information that foreign nationals were staying at an under-construction building within the Surathkal police station limits, about 20 km from Mangaluru.

City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy told reporters that during the inspection, officers verified the identity documents of 54 construction workers employed at the site and eight workers were found to be Bangladeshi nationals staying in the country illegally.

They have been identified as Md Muktar Ali (36), Md Rakibur Hossen (44), Md Ajarul Islam (36), Md Zahid Hosen (18), Md Belal Hossain (36), Md Hasibul Hasan Shanto (37), Md Sameul Hasan (23) and Md Seibur Rahman.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the eight had allegedly entered India illegally about three months ago by crossing the international border through Murshidabad district in West Bengal.

Police said they subsequently used colour photocopies of Aadhaar cards carrying addresses in West Bengal with their own photographs affixed to them before travelling to Mukka near Mangaluru, where they had been working as construction labourers for the past two months.

During questioning, police examined the documents found in their possession, including their National Identity Cards, birth certificates and records relating to their family members which reportedly confirmed that they were citizens of Bangladesh.

The men had allegedly come to Karnataka in search of work and had entered India without obtaining valid passports or visas.

“We have informed the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Bengaluru, for further action, including the process relating to their deportation and other legal proceedings,” the Commissioner said.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Mangaluru North Assistant Commissioner of Police Srikanth. The raid was led by Surathkal Police Inspector Pramod Kumar, along with PSI Raghu Nayak and other police personnel.
