Karnataka: Cockroach Infestation, Unhygienic Conditions Common In Clubs

The inspections conducted included Bowring Club, Century Club, KSCA Club, Catholic Club, Tennis Club, Vijayanagara Club, Mahalakshmi Layout Club and Malleshwaram Club. The inspections at Bowring Club, officials found unhygienic conditions and cockroach infestation in the food storage area and a notice was served.

At Century Club, the inspecting team of officials observed cockroach infestation. Unhygienic and insanitary conditions were observed before a notice was swerved on it. Scenes at Catholic Club were similar to that of Century Club where officials found cockroach infestation, violations in food labelling, deficiencies in cleanliness and sanitation and 10 packets of expired mushroom food products were stored. A notice was served on the Club by officials concerned.

Malleshwaram Club, officials noted cockroach infestation, violations in food labelling and deficiencies in cleanliness and sanitation and the inspection at Mahalakshmi Layout Club, officials took note of food labelling violations and deficiencies in cleanliness and sanitation.

The inspection at KSCA Club, they found use of plastic cutting boards, lack of cleanliness in the frozen area, improper storage of vegetarian/ non-vegetarian food articles, lack of hot water facility at the utensil washing area. A notice has been served.

Apart from observing/detection of violations, food safety officials collected samples of drinking water and used cooking oil which appeared suspicious and subjected them to the Government Food Laboratory for analysis. Commissioner of Food Safety and Drugs Administration assured to initiate legal action against erring Clubs based on the lab analysis report.
