BENGALURU: The deficit in rainfall in most parts of the State, in particular River Cauvery basin, so far, will have no impact on the conduct of Mysore dasara festivities in October this year as Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday ruled out discontinuing dasara festivities or a low-key affair. He assured the ensuing dasara festivities celebrated as Nadda Habba (State Fest” will be conducted in a grandeur adding new attractions keeping in mind the traditions followed in the conduct of festivities.
Divulging details on the conduct of dasara festivities after chairing a meeting with elected representatives in Vidhana Soudha of Bengaluru, Shivakumar stated the Gaja Payana’ (elephant journey) to mark the beginning of the dasara festivities will be held on August 26 at 10 am at Veeranahosahallli, the entrance of Nagarahole National Park opf Hunsur taluk in Mysuru district.
The ‘Gaja Payana’ is an event wherein tamed elephants drawn from various elephant camps selected for dasara festivities are offered pujas by dignitaries’ before being transported to Mysuru city for the festivities, as per tradition.
However, the Chief Minister said, 11-day dasara festivities conducted by the State Government, will be inaugurated on October 11 at 11.50 am atop Chamundi Hill in Mysuru and the major attraction of Mysore dasara festivities, jumbo savari (royal elephant march from Mysore Palace premises to Bannimantap in Mysuru city with a designated elephant carrying golden howdah) will be held on October 21, major crowd puller.
While pujas will be conducted on October 21 at around 1.30 pm and flower petals will be showered on the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari mounted on golden howdah at 4.10 pm for the jumbo savari to begin.
