Karnataka: Campaign Mooted To Counter Love Jihad

Yatnal kicks up a storm saying that Rs 5 lakh would be offered to the enthusiastic boys agreeing to marry Muslim girls

Koppal: Bijapur City MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal seems to have stirred a controversy, while speaking to reporters, stating that a campaign would be started offering Rs 5 lakh to Hindu boys who marry Muslim girls.

Yatnal made the remark on Sunday after visiting the family of Gavissappa, who was murdered recently in Kurubara Oni of Koppal. He alleged that the killing took place in front of a mosque and claimed the accused had earlier brandished a machete in a social media reel.

“They do Love Jihad. But why should it be that a Hindu boy cannot marry a Muslim girl? Henceforth, we will start a campaign to give Rs 5 lakh if a Hindu boy marries a Muslim girl,” he said.

He further alleged that a girl, who had reportedly called the victim multiple times before the incident, should also be taken into custody.

“Their relationship had ended eight or nine months ago, yet he was killed,” Yatnal said.

He accused the state government of shielding Muslims and alleged that “while Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaks of protecting AHINDA, this government gives protection only to Muslims.”

Yatnal said he would raise the issue in the upcoming Assembly session, demanded an apology from the CM, and sought “proper compensation” for the victim’s family.
