Karnataka Bandh Not to Disrupt Normal Life on Thursday
The Commissioner stated tight measures have been initiated at important and sensitive locations
BENGALURU: Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru Seemanth Kumar Singh on Wednesday made it clear that schools and colleges, offices, shops and commercial establishments, public transport and other normal activities are expected to function as usual on Thursday after several pro-Kannada organisations have assured the Bengaluru police over their non-cooperation to the Karnataka bandh.
However, a prominent pro-Kannada leader Vatal Nagraj said Karnataka bandh will be observed from 6 am to 6 pm against water release directions by Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee (CWRC) and Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) asking Karnataka to release water to Tamil Nadu of 12,000 cusecs for 15-days starting Wednesday when Karnataka itself is in acute water shortage owing to deficit rainfall this season.
Vatal Nagraj, bandh will be total in Mandya, Hubballi, Raichur, Koppal and Ballari districts. A statement from the office of Commissioner of Police stated “With a view to ensuring the safety of the public and maintaining law and order, the Bengaluru City police have made necessary precautionary and security arrangements across the city. Adequate police deployment, patrolling and security measures have been put in place.”
Singh asked the people of Bengaluru to continue their daily activities as usual without fear or apprehension. He warned that any act involving violence, threats, damage to public or private property, obstruction of road traffic or essential services or any other act of taking law into one’s own hands will be dealt firmly and appropriately in accordance with the law.
