Kalaburagi: Police Arrest Two Alleged House Thieves; Gold And Cash Recovered

A complaint was filed on June 3, 2025, by Veerabhadrayya, an employee at KKRTC where he alleged that between May 31 and June 3, 2025, while he was away attending a wedding in Tipurant village near Basavakalyan, burglars broke into his house.

Kalaburagi: MB Nagar Police have arrested two persons in connection with multiple house thefts and recovered gold, cash, and other valuables worth over Rs 12.14 lakh, officials said.

A complaint was filed on June 3, 2025, by Veerabhadrayya, an employee at KKRTC where he alleged that between May 31 and June 3, 2025, while he was away attending a wedding in Tipurant village near Basavakalyan, burglars broke into his house. Upon returning, he found the main door lock broken and discovered that his almirah had been tampered with.

Stolen items included Rs 1,20,000 in cash, gold ornaments worth Rs 1,80,000, and silver items worth Rs 1,35,000, with the total loss from that house alone amounting to Rs 4,35,000. A case was registered under Sections 331(3), 331(4), and 305 of the BNS Act, 2023, and an investigation was launched.

Under the guidance of Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Dr Sharanappa SD and Deputy Commissioner of Police Praveen H Nayak, a special team led by Assistant Commissioner Shivanagouda Patil and MB Nagar PI Khaja Hussain conducted a technical and scientific investigation to trace the accused.

The police worked on CCTV footage they received in connection to the case and tracked the accused.

Sharanappa told reporters that on January 28 the team apprehended the accused identified as Appaji alias Appu (22) and Santhosh alias Antya (30). Both are from Aland taluk.

“They used to work during the day at fields and, at night, would ride their bike to the city and randomly select houses to commit thefts. After carrying out a robbery, they would avoid the area for one to two months,” the Commissioner said.

Investigations also revealed that the accused had already sold around 50 percent of the stolen gold at lower prices near bus stands and railway stations. The remaining gold and cash have been recovered by the authorities.

Police recovered 67 grams of gold ornaments, Rs 1,02,000 in cash, and a Pulsar bike used in the crimes, bringing the total recovered assets to Rs 12,14,000.

The accused have been remanded to judicial custody. Kalaburagi City Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa SD commended the officers and staff for their successful investigation and swift apprehension of the burglars.

Search is on for the others associated with the accused.
