“Islam A Superior Religion,” Karnataka Higher Education Minister, BJP Demands His Sacking
Clarifying his statement, Rayareddy stated “What’s wrong in it. I said certain superior thoughts are in Islamic religion. I never said other religions are inferior.

BENGALURU: “I wish to state that among all religions, Islam is a superior religion. It starts with humanity,” stated Karnataka Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy at a gathering in Koppal on Sunday triggering a row on Monday with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding his resignation/ withdrawal of statement. The excerpts of the speech went viral on Monday.
At a function, Rayareddy said “Misconceptions on Islamic religion are spread by communal forces” and stated “I don’t go to temples or Mutts.” He was addressing a gathering as part of a mass marriage ceremony in Kukkanur of Koppal district. A senior politician Rayareddy is the MLA representing Yelaburga Assembly seat of Koppal district.
Clarifying his statement, Rayareddy stated “What’s wrong in it. I said certain superior thoughts are in Islamic religion. I never said other religions are inferior. Continuing, he said “Even if I said Islam religion is superior, what's wrong in it?”
On Monday, R. Ashoka asked Rayareddy to withdraw his statement and tender an unconditional apology to Hindus (hurting their sentiments). If Rayareddy refuses to apologise, Ashoka asked Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to sack him from the Cabinet.
Ashoka said the nation is watching the true face of Congress party’s ‘Sarva Dharma Sambhava' and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan.’ He assured that the BJP will not allow the dignity of Hindus to be compromised for cheap vote-bank politics.
Taking exception to the statement, State BJP president and ML B.Y. Vijayendra stated “the statement would boomerang on Rayareddy in future.” Vijayendra asked Rayareddy to convert to Islam as per his wishes and settle in Mecca where Islam religion is dominant.
