Initiative To Deliver Certified Water To Consumers’ Doorsteps Gains Traction In Bengaluru

To curb groundwater exploitation, ‘Sanchari Cauvery’ aims to reduce overuse and ensure access to certified drinking water.

Bengaluru: Days after the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) launched ‘Sanchari Cauvery’ to supply BIS-certified drinking water, over 1,000 users downloaded its mobile app to book certified water. Bengaluru is the first city in India to deliver certified drinking water to consumers’ doorsteps.

‘Sanchari Cauvery’, a State Government initiative, uses GPS-tracked tankers to deliver clean water. Consumers can register, book tankers, select capacity, track vehicles in real-time, pay online, and receive driver and delivery details via the app or web platform.
BWSSB Chairman Dr Ram Prasath Manohar said, “The initiative has received a positive response.” Water deliveries have begun for online bookings.
The Chairman urged consumers to test the water quality, noting that private tankers, often using borewell water, lack quality checks and may be unfit for drinking. Queries about water filling centres or quality can be addressed.
To curb groundwater exploitation, ‘Sanchari Cauvery’ aims to reduce overuse and ensure access to certified drinking water. Tankers have EPI coating to prevent corrosion and contamination.
Pricing is competitive: within a 2-km radius from filling points, a 4,000-litre tanker costs Rs 660, 5,000 litres Rs 700, 6,000 litres Rs 740, and 12,000 litres Rs 1,290. Additional kilometres are charged at Rs 50/km for small tankers and Rs 70/km for 12,000-litre tankers.
