India's Oldest Serving MLA Shivashankarappa No More

Shivashankarappa was first elected to the Assembly at the age of 65 in 1994 on a Congress ticket. He represented Davangere South in 2023: Reports

BENGALURU: India’s oldest legislator, the 95-year-old Shamanur Shivashankarappa of the Congress in Karnataka, died in Bengaluru on Sunday of age-related illness. He was elected MLA six times and was a minister minister in the Siddaramaiah government from 2013 to 2016.

He also elected to the Lok Sabha once and was president of the Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha.

Shivashankarappa was first elected to the Assembly at the age of 65 in 1994 on a Congress ticket. He represented Davangere South in 2023.

His son, minister S.S. Mallikarjun, who was on his way to Tirumala rushed back to the city. The mortal remains of Shivashankarappa will be taken to Davangere for public viewing.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda condoled the death of Shivashankarappa.
