Immolation attempt foiled in front of Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru

On his arrival in front of Raj Bhavan, Zuhail initially shouted justice and accused the police of standing by his wife

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old software engineer identified as Zuhail Ahmed allegedly tried to immolate with fuel (petrol) in front of Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru city before journalists gathered around averted the suicide attempted by the engineer over alleged harassment from his wife.

It is said Zuhail, a resident of Hebbal in Bengaluru city, ascended in front of Raj Bhavan with a bag which had a bottle of petrol. On his arrival in front of Raj Bhavan, Zuhail initially shouted justice and accused the police of standing by his wife.

In the meantime, he pulled out the bottle containing petrol in it and poured it on himself. However, his activities were noticed by media persons gathered in front of the Raj Bhavan on their routine work. They noticed Zuhail pouring petrol on him and rushed to his rescue before he could set himself ablaze.

Vidhana Soudha police rushed to the spot and took Zuhail into their custody and was shifted to a hospital.

The reason for Zuhail taking the extreme step is said to be over disputes with his wife identified as Javeria Muskan, a resident of Chikkaballapura. Their marriage was solemnised on November 14, last year. Soon, their marriage got into trouble and the couple started to quarrel over personal issues.

Zuhail accused his wife Javeria Muskan of threatening him to register false complaints against him. He stated his wife demanded divorce from him over trivial reasons. To get her demands fulfilled, Zuhail said, his wife registered a police complaint against him in Chikkaballapura and police reportedly took the side of his wife.

Zuhail claimed threat to his life along with his family members and sought protection to him and his family members.
