BENGALURU: A 700-meter Hebbal flyover loop was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday and the new Hebbal flyover loop is expected to reduce traffic congestion particularly at Hebbal junction to a considerable extent. The flyover loop was built at a cost of Rs 80 crore and the works completed in about 7-months.

After inauguration of the flyover loop, Bengaluru incharge and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told reporters it has been planned to construct a tunnel road of 1.5 km from Baptist Hospital to Esteem Mall in Hebbal in coming days while a decision on the tunnel road in Hebbal will be discussed with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and officials concerned of the department of finance.

Another flyover loop construction at Hebbal has been taken-up by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), he said and stated the work on second flyover loop at Hebbal would be completed expeditiously. He said tenders have been invited for the construction of a 16.5-km tunnel road at a cost of Rs 17,000 crore.

Shivakumar said he explained to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on steps initiated to de-congested Hebbal junction to Silk Board and stated the State Government is committed to ease vehicular movement from Kempegowda International Airport and arriving in Bengaluru city.

“Completion of works taken-up assumed utmost importance for me than amount spent,” he said and criticized Bharatiya Janata Party leaders accusing them of failing to get adequate funds for development of Bengaluru city from the BJP led Union Government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too has acknowledged Bengaluru city as one of the global cities (but no funds released).

Over observations that the flyover loop would congest Mekhri Circle, Shivakumar declined to comment on it stating that “I won’t answer for all the views expressed.”
