Heavy Rains Lash Across Coastal Karnataka; Hakladi records 189 mm

Mangaluru: Severe southwest monsoon activity triggered heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Coastal Karnataka during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday, with Hakladi in Kundapura taluk of Udupi district recording the state's highest rainfall at 189 mm.
According to data released by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, widespread rainfall lashed the coastal belt under the influence of active southwest monsoon conditions over the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats.
In Udupi district, Hakladi recorded 189 mm of rainfall, followed by Kollur (86.4 mm), Siddapura (50.2 mm), Udupi town (30 mm) and Kundapura town (14 mm).
Neighbouring Dakshina Kannada district also witnessed heavy rainfall. Uppinangadi received 122.8 mm, followed by Belthangadi (100.8 mm), Dharmasthala (76.2 mm), Mudubidre (74.4 mm), Bantwal (27.4 mm) and Mangaluru city (23.6 mm).
In Uttara Kannada district, Joida recorded 148.6 mm of rainfall, while Jagalbet received 67 mm, Gersoppa 46.2 mm and Kiravatti 32.4 mm during the same observation period.
The India Meteorological Department, in coordination with state disaster monitoring authorities, has issued alerts for the coastal districts, warning of sustained surface winds of 30-40 kmph and isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
