Heavy Rain Triggers Waterlogging, Traffic Snarls in Bengaluru
Thunderstorms and overnight rainfall flood key areas, disrupt traffic; no major incidents reported.

Bengaluru: Rains lashed Bengaluru city on Friday night leaving many roads waterlogged in various parts especially Sarjapur road, BTS road, Manyata Tech Park, Varthur road and Anekal.
One of the most affected by water logging was Sarjapur road where water engulfed Rainbow Drive Layout to about knee-deep and forced the residents to stay indoors. . Power supply to the Layout was disconnected as a precautionary measure by officials concerned. As many as 100 houses are in the Layout and some ventured out wading through knee-deep water to get out of the Layout.
The residents of Rainbow Drive Layout have gone through similar waterlogging issues whenever the region received rainfall in excess. A source recalled the Layout was surrounded by water in 2021 and again in 2024. But nothing substantial happened to address water logging of their Layout. Personnel from fire and emergency services and State Disaster Relief Force were engaged in to drain excess water from the Layout.
A road leading to Pioneer Residency in Anekal was waterlogged on Saturday making it difficult for the people to commute using the road. A source said water from a nearby lake overflowed onto the roads and affected the vehicular movement. The waterlogging was about 4-feet in morning on Gattahalli-Huskur road and receded by about a foot by evening.
The flyover near Manyata Tech Park was flooded and motorists had difficult times to travel over the flyover to reach their respective destinations. Varthur road was waterlogged so was BTS road among many others.
Owing to the heavy rains in Bengaluru city, fresh potholes were noticed on a flyover leading to KR Market from Mysore road.
Regarding the situation in Bengaluru over heavy rains, Bengaluru incharge and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told reporters “No major damages have been reported and officials concerned are on high alert to tackle the situation arising out of heavy rains.”
