The holiday has been declared for all anganwadis, government, aided and private schools, besides PU, ITI and diploma colleges.

Mangaluru: Authorities in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have declared a holiday for anganwadis, schools, PU colleges, ITIs and diploma colleges on Saturday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across the coastal districts.
The holiday has been declared for all anganwadis, government, aided and private schools, besides PU, ITI and diploma colleges. However, degree, postgraduate and engineering colleges will remain open.
The Udupi district administration said the decision was taken in view of the IMD's orange alert and the possibility of intensified rainfall. It directed college authorities not to insist on attendance. Authorities suggested that any academic loss due to the holiday may be compensated through additional classes on Saturday afternoons or Sundays.
The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
