BENGALURU: The High Court of Karnataka on Thursday rejected a petition of actor Darshan, accused in a murder case, challenging the trial court’s refusal to allow him to file objections to a co-accused’s (Pradosh) application to turn approver.

Darshan is an accused in the alleged murder of Renukaswamy, a resident of Chitradurga along with co-accused Pradosh. Renukaswamy was allegedly murdered after the victim is said to have forwarded lewd messages to actor’s girlfriend Pavithra Gowda, also an accused in the murder case which made the actor infuriated. Currently, Darshan is lodged in Central Prison, Bengaluru.

After City Civil and Sessions Court -59 Bengaluru rejected the application from Darshan who sought to file objections. Darshan argued an opportunity should be given to express their views on the request made by Pradosh. The petition from Darshan stated if any of the accused have objections to Pradosh turning approver witness, an opportunity should be provided. The City Civil and Sessions Court rejected the petition before Darshan moved the High Court.

Pradosh applied to become an approver under section 307 of CrPC and expressed his willingness to testify in the Court. Pradosh is accused number 14 in the murder case.

In his 11-page petition, Pradosh is said to have given a detailed account of abduction of Renukaswamy from Chitradurga to ferry him to Bengaluru, alleged torture at a shed in Pattanagere of Bengaluru city, assault leading to his alleged murdered and eventually the body of Renukaswamy was dumped on roadside under Kamakshipalya police station limits of Bengaluru in June, 2004.

The application by Pradosh to turn approver reportedly stated the scene where Renukaswamy was beaten up with sticks, kicked him and Darshan reportedly put his leg to press the victim in his chest area and kicked him in his private part. Darshan was shell-shocked after he came across Renukaswamy succumbed to injuries he sustained in the assault on him at the shed.

Prior to Renukaswamy breathed his last at the shed, Darshan is alleged to have directed his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda to hit her tormentor with slipper and later Renukaswamy was stripped before actor’s associates-Nandish, Pavan and Nagaraj started beating him with sticks. Darshan is said to have pleaded Pradosh to come to his rescue to dispose of the body of Renukaswamy on June 8, 2024.
