Greater Bengaluru Authority to Start Functioning by September 15
As of now, Shivakumar said, to carve out new City Corporations in the existing Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be notified and later on decided on extension of the boundary for GBA.

Bengaluru: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) came into existence on May 15 by replacing Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Authority should start its functioning by September 15, said Bengaluru incharge and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and he stated “By September 15, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) should hold its first meeting.”
“A decision on how many Corporations should be carved out in Bengaluru will be taken as early as possible,” he said. After a meeting in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said he is gathering suggestions from MLAs of Bengaluru regarding formation of Corporations under Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). (Under the Authority, as many as 7 City Corporations could be created).
As of now, Shivakumar said, to carve out new City Corporations in the existing Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be notified and later on decided on extension of the boundary for GBA.
Continuing, he said, some MLAs have given their suggestions and their suggestions range from creation of 3 to 5 new City Corporations and a discussion will also be held with Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka on “How many new City Corporations should be carved out?” After eliciting suggestions from all the MLAs, he said, to arrive at a decision.
On construction of tunnel roads in Bengaluru city to ease vehicular congestion, the Deputy Chief Minister said the cabinet meeting gave its nod for twin tunnel roads for Bengaluru city and soon tender will be invited for the phase 1 of the tunnel roads (proposed from Hebbal to Silk Board covering a distance of 16. 745 km costing Rs 17, 780 crore).
He said he held a meeting with police officers to take a final confirmation from them before inviting tender for tunnel road construction especially on entry and exit points to avoid traffic congestion. “We have to take a cautious step on entry and exit points of tunnel road,” he said.
The Bengaluru incharge minister made it clear that no exit points around 1-km radius of Vidhana Soudha which could result in traffic snarl affecting smooth flow of traffic.
