Gas Leak in Karnataka’s Yadgir; Three Killed Including Telangana Man

Yadgir: Three workers were killed, and two others sustained injuries after a suspected sulphur dioxide gas leak at a pharmaceutical chemical factory in the Kadechur Industrial Area in Yadgir district in the early hours of Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tukaram Pandve and Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar rushed to the factory soon after the incident and reviewed the situation.
The deceased have been identified as Katla Ganesh, a native of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana, and Vikram Singh Gonda and Sanjay Singh Gonda, both from Katni district in Madhya Pradesh.
The injured, Manchala Hemanth and Manchala Shivakumar, both residents of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, have been admitted to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where they are undergoing treatment.
According to sources, the incident occurred at CIL Laboratories Pvt Ltd in the KIADB Industrial Area at Kadechur. Preliminary findings indicate that sulphur dioxide released during the manufacturing process escaped after a pipeline developed a leak.
"The workers inhaled the leaked gas, resulting in the deaths of three persons. Two others have been shifted to RIMS for treatment," Deputy Commissioner Pandve told reporters.
Officials used a multi-gas detector to assess the situation after the incident. "There is no sulphur dioxide leakage now. The plant has remained shut for the last five to six hours. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been called in," he said.
Forensic experts will examine the unit to ascertain the exact cause of the leak and identify any safety lapses.
Police have registered a case against the factory officials and initiated an investigation.
