GADAG: A 14-year-old boy was burnt to death after a fire allegedly triggered by a mosquito repellent coil broke out inside a parked vehicle at Hombal village in Gadag taluk on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sadanand Uppar.
According to sources, the incident occurred when Sadananda chose to sleep in the cruiser vehicle parked outside the house. As there were mosquitoes, he had reportedly lit a mosquito repellent.
“He is said to have lit a mosquito repellent agarbatti inside the vehicle. The fire is suspected to have originated from this, which spread to the vehicle seats and quickly engulfed the interior,” a senior police officer told Deccan Chronicle.
Sadanand was trapped inside and died due to the incident.
“His elder brother Mailari, who was sleeping on top of the vehicle, noticed the flames and heat and immediately jumped down, saving himself and shouting. The relatives who were inside the house got to know about it after he shouted,” the officer narrated.
Gadag Rural Police have registered a case, and further investigation is underway.
Sadanand and Mailari basically hail from Tarihal village near Hubli. “They were staying with his grandfather and uncle and studying here. While Sadananda was in the 8th standard, his brother was in the 9th standard,” he added.
