Free Bus Passes Will Cover Boys, Govt Committed To Resolve Unemployment Problem, Says CM

BENGALURU: Distribution of free students’ bus passes restricted to girls to travel in State owned buses will now cover boys as well, said Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar after holding his cabinet meeting on assuming charge as Chief Minister.

The reason to cover boys under free bus passes was over numerous complaints from boys who took exception to free bus passes given to girls. Now, students studying in high schools, pre-university colleges and graduation will be covered but students have to apply to avail free bus passes. The name for the scheme will be announced later and the Chief Minister assured to discuss with transport officials over its implementation.

Regarding providing employment for youths, Shivakumar stated “Karnataka is the Human Resources capital of the country” producing more number of nurses, engineers, doctors, professors among others including information technology and biotechnology sectors.

The State Government initiated steps to fill-up as many as 56,000 vacancies in government jobs and the process of filling-up the vacant posts will start. “We are going to release a calendar of events on filling up vacant posts,” said the Chief Minister.

Shivakumar said “Private Employment Exchange” which will act as a facilitation centre will be started in consultation with hospitals, hotels, Chamber of Commerce and Industries to assist unemployed youths to get details on job opportunities.

“The State Government is committed to resolving unemployment problems,” the Chief Minister said. To make Private Employment Exchange a reality, Shivakumar said 3 cabinet ministers have been asked to work on it and make it functional in a month. “The entire process will be online,” he said.

The Chief Minister said to start ‘Bharat Jodo Youth Groups’ at every Panchayat levels of the State and every group will have about 20 members to inculcate in youths’ sports, cultural activities, leadership qualities among other Every "Bharat Jodo Youths Groups" will get Rs 10 lakh financial assistance from the State Government.
