Five Killed in Lightning Strikes Across North Karnataka

Ballari:Five people lost their lives in separate lightning strikes across North Karnataka on Tuesday, as heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed the region. The fatalities were reported from Ballari, Koppal (two each), and Vijayapura (one). A pair of oxen also died in Koppal. The downpour also caused traffic snarls and waterlogging in several areas of North Karnataka districts.
In Hulihyder of Kanakagiri taluk, Koppal district, Yankappa Jaddi, 45, was struck by lightning while working in his field. His pair of oxen also died in the strike which took place around noon. Farmer Basanagouda, 39, from Mailapur in Karatagi taluk, was killed by lightning when he was trying to cover his harvest with tarpaulin.
In Ballari district, Bheerappa, 45, and Sunil, 26 —residents of Raravi village in Siruguppa taluk, died in similar circumstances. A 14-year-old boy named Vinod was also affected and is currently in a critical condition at a hospital.
In Vijayapura district’s Tangadagi village of Muddebihal taluk, Mallappa Gurushantappa Talikoti, 47, was struck by lightning when he took shelter under a tree while grazing cattle.
