Externed Man Arrested In Udupi, Ganja Recovered From Car

The accused, identified as Mohammed Faizal, a resident of Banglagudde in Kasaba village of Karkala taluk, had been externed from the district under an order issued by the district authorities.

Udupi: A man externed from Udupi district was arrested by Karkala Town police after he allegedly crashed his car and fled while attempting to evade police, with ganja later recovered from the vehicle.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Faizal, a resident of Banglagudde in Kasaba village of Karkala taluk, had been externed from the district under an order issued by the district authorities. However, police received information that he was present within the Malpe police station limits in violation of the order.

Acting on the tip-off, a police team traced him near Hoode Nagabrahma Babbu Swamy Daivasthana at Paduthonse village. When officers approached him to execute the order, Faizal, who was inside a white car, allegedly attempted to flee by suddenly reversing the vehicle. In the process, he rammed into a roadside coconut tree and escaped from the scene, leaving the damaged vehicle behind.

Based on the incident, Malpe police registered a case under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving.

During a subsequent spot mahazar, police searched the vehicle and found 173.42 grams of ganja along with two mobile phones.

Police said the accused, along with another person, was allegedly in possession of the contraband with the intention of selling it. A separate case has been registered under Sections 8(a)(c) and 20(b)(ii)(a) and (b) of the NDPS Act.

Faizal was later traced and arrested by Karkala Town police and will be produced before the court.
