IAF Officer Beats Up Motorcyclist, Feigns Innocence on Selfie Video

In a video posted by the person on a social networking account of about two-and half minutes, the Wing Commander alleged a two-wheeler intercepted his car driven by wife Squadron Leader Madhumitha and the person on the two-wheeler started to hurl abuses at his wife before turning to him.

Bengaluru: A road rage incident involving IAF’s Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose, employed at the DRDO, took a turn after CCTV footage showed him assaulting a motorcyclist in Baiyyappanahalli. The footage contradicted his viral selfie video, where Wg Cmdr Bose appeared with blood streaming down his face and neck, shirt torn.

The incident happened around 6 am. Bose said he was heading to the Bengaluru airport with his wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Das, at the wheel. On their way, the IAF official said, a two-wheeler rider blocked their car, hurled abuses in Kannada, and targeted them after spotting the DRDO sticker on the vehicle. “One rider started abusing me in Kannada. Then said, ‘You DRDO people,’ and abused my wife. I couldn’t take it,” he said in a later video.
He claimed he stepped out of the car and was immediately struck on the forehead with a key. “I stood there shouting, asking if this is how people treat someone from the Army or Defence Forces. More people gathered and started abusing us. One man even picked up a stone and tried to damage my car. When I tried to stop him, he hit me again. You can see the blood. This is what happened. Thankfully, my wife was there to get me out,” Bose said in the video.
He added that they went to the police station but received no immediate help. “This is what Karnataka has become. I believed in this state. After today, I’m shocked. God help us. God give me the strength not to retaliate. But if law and order fail, I will retaliate,” he said.
However, portions of CCTV footage released later contradicted the version. The publicised portion showed Wg Cmdr Bose pushing the biker, later identified as call centre employee Vikas Kumar, kicked him, locked his neck in a chokehold, tried to grab his phone, and punched him multiple times. Another clip showed Wg Cmdr Bose throwing the biker’s belongings.
“This is not a language issue. It’s a clear case of road rage,” D. Devaraj, DCP East Bengaluru, told the media. “Both could have avoided it. Six to seven youngsters tried to stop the fight. The officer got out of the car. Then both fought. Vikas Kumar has been arrested.”
Wg Cmdr Bose reportedly left the police station without filing a complaint. He later posted a video with a bandage on, from the airport, saying he was flying to Kolkata to visit his ailing father. Based on a complaint by Sqn Ldr Madhumita Das, police arrested Vikas Kumar. Police are reviewing dashcam video from the IAF officer’s and bystander videos.
