DMK Moves Supreme Court Against TVK Over Karur Stampede Remarks
Party seeks restraint on public statements by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and other TVK leaders, alleging they could influence the ongoing CBI probe.

Chennai: The DMK has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking action against the ’irresponsible, misleading, malicious, and disrespectful’ speech of State Minister Adhav Arjuna in connection with the Karur stampede at a TVK rally on September 27, 2025.
The speech sought to create a false narrative against the DMK, its President M.K. Stalin and the Tamil Nadu Police, while simultaneously attempting to influence public opinion and interfere with an investigation being conducted pursuant to the orders of the Supreme Court, DMK Organizing Secretary, R S Bharathi said in his Special Leave Petition.
The petition wanted a direction to be given to the CBI to register a complaint and proceed against Aadhav Arjuna for his speech made on July 2, allegedly influencing and tampering with witnesses and impeding the investigation into the Karur stampede.
The DMK also sought the restraining of TVK leaders, including its president and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Ministers Adhav Arjuna, N Anand and CT Nirmal Kumar, or any accused or person connected with the investigation, from making public statements attributing criminal liability, threatening political opponents or commenting on the merits of the investigation in a manner likely to prejudice or interfere with the fair and independent investigation.
The petition wanted the State Government not to extend ex gratia assistance, compassionate appointments and other welfare measures to the families of the deceased and injured victims of the stampede during the pendency of the CBI investigation except in accordance with such procedure and safeguards as may be directed by the Supreme Court.
A DMK press release said that Aadhav Arjuna was the main accused in the Karur stampede and that a contempt petition would be filed against him for speaking irresponsibly at the event marking the induction of the former AIADMK Ministers into the TVK.
