Congress to Mark Two Years in Power with Mga Land Title Deed Distribution in Hosapete

Titled Pragatiyatta Karnataka – Samarpane Sankalpa (Progressive Karnataka – A Commitment of Dedication), the event will be held on May 20 at 11 am at the district stadium in Hosapete, Vijayanagara.

Hosapete: As the Congress-led government in Karnataka completes two years in office, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s administration is set to mark the occasion with a large-scale public event that underscores its focus on inclusive development and welfare-driven governance.

Titled Pragatiyatta Karnataka – Samarpane Sankalpa (Progressive Karnataka – A Commitment of Dedication), the event will be held on May 20 at 11 am at the district stadium in Hosapete, Vijayanagara. One of the highlights of the day will be the distribution of Revenue Village Title Deeds to over one lakh families—many of whom have lived for generations without formal land ownership.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will hand over the title deeds to beneficiaries, while Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge will inaugurate the programme. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will preside over the event.

Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar told reporters on Monday that the State government was not just celebrating two years in office but was paying back to the people by distributing more than a lakh land records to the people.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting preparations for the event organised here to celebrate the second anniversary of the state government and distribute land records, the DCM said, “Our government is rewriting history by doing what could not be achieved in 100 years. The Bhu Guarantee scheme of the Revenue department is historic.”

“Along with its five guarantee schemes, the state government has also launched the Bhoo Guarantee (Land Guarantee) initiative to bring reforms in Revenue Department services. Despite living on land for hundreds of years, many people were not considered residents of revenue villages and, therefore, were not eligible for land ownership documents. This is now being rectified, and eligible beneficiaries are being issued Revenue Village Title Deeds," Shivakumar said.

“Though families from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes have been residing on land for generations, they were denied ownership as the areas were not classified as revenue villages,” Shivakumar said and added that the government has now decided to correct this historic injustice by issuing Revenue Village Title Deeds to eligible families.

As part of the programme, more than one lakh families will receive land title deeds, he said, calling it a “new chapter” in Karnataka’s revenue history.

Shivakumar explained that individuals who have resided on government or private land within revenue limits for over 16 years will now be eligible for ownership. Tahsildars will personally inspect such sites, and once verified, the land will be registered at the sub-registrar’s office free of cost. Beneficiaries can then use the property as collateral for loans from nationalized banks, though they will not be allowed to sell the land for 15 years.

“This is not politics based on sentiment. We are focused on improving lives. Our government is committed to using the mandate given by the people for developmental work and systemic reform across all departments,” he added.

Shivakumar also announced that a statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi has been installed at the western end of the district stadium in Hosapete. Recalling her historic visit to the town, he said the statue will be unveiled on May 20 as part of the program.

Housing, Minority Welfare and Waqf Minister and District In-charge Minister B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan spearheaded the initiative to install the statue.

In the run-up to the mega event ‘Pragatiyatta Karnataka – Samarpane Sankalpa’ DK Shivakumar flagged off a bike rally in Hosapete on Monday. The rally was held to create awareness about the distribution of Revenue Village Title Deeds to one lakh families under the government’s flagship people-centric initiative.

The rally, which began from the District Stadium, passed through key areas including Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle, Dr. Puneeth Rajkumar Circle, and KSRTC Bus Stand, before concluding at Gandhi Chowk. Hundreds of youth participated in the rally, lending energy and visibility to the programme.

Housing, Waqf and Minority Welfare Minister and Vijayanagara District In-Charge B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, Ballari MP E. Tukaram, Hosapete MLA H.R. Gaviyappa, Kudligi MLA Dr. N.T. Srinivas, Kampli MLA J. Ganesh participated in the rally.
