Congress Leader Shot Dead in Karnataka’s Udupi District

The deceased has been identified as David D'Souza. He was the former president of the Mudarangadi Village Panchayat and owned a bar and a public transport unit

Udupi: A former gram panchayat president and contractor was shot dead by two unidentified assailants at Pilar village, about 35 km from Udupi on Friday afternoon.

The victim, identified as David D'Souza, a former president of the Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat and a Congress leader, was attacked near St Francis Xavier Church in Mudarangadi Gram Panchayat limits.
According to preliminary information, two unidentified assailants who arrived on a motorcycle opened fire at David D'Souza and fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Local residents immediately rushed the seriously injured D'Souza to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing.
Personnel from the Shirva and Padubidri police stations reached the spot and initiated the probe. A Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) team and a dog squad were pressed into service to examine the spot and collect evidence.
Investigation is in progress.
