Coast Guard Rescues Six Fishermen off Mangaluru Coast

The rescue operation was carried out amid rough seas, strong winds, poor visibility and fading daylight, making the mission particularly challenging

Mangaluru: The Indian Coast Guard rescued six fishermen off the Mangaluru coast after their fishing boat developed a leak in rough seas.

At around 4 pm on Monday, the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet intercepted a VHF radio distress call from a fishing boat located about 33 nautical miles off the Surathkal coast. The boat reported severe flooding and hull damage caused by rough sea conditions, placing the lives of all six crew members at imminent risk.

Responding immediately, the Coast Guard diverted ICGS Sachet to render assistance. The ship reached the distressed vessel within about 90 minutes.

The rescue operation was carried out amid rough seas, strong winds, poor visibility and fading daylight, making the mission particularly challenging. Despite the adverse conditions, the crew of ICGS Sachet successfully rescued all six fishermen.

The rescue team used remote-operated lifebuoys to evacuate the fishermen from the damaged boat. The lifebuoys are specially designed for use in adverse sea conditions, enabling rescuers to safely reach and recover stranded persons.

The rescue operation was completed by 9.30 pm.
