CM Siddaramaiah writes to PM Modi to cancel Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport

Bengaluru: Asking the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get 'serious' on his demand of cancellation of a diplomatic passport of Hassan Lok Sabha member Prajwal Revanna who has fled the country facing accusations of accused rape, sexual assault, disrobing women and forcibly video graphing sexual acts, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reiterated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his demand to initiate steps to secure the MP who has fled the country close to a month now.

Prajwal represents Janata Dal Secular (JDS) and has sought re-nomination from Hassan as a JDS-Bharatiya Janata Party consensus nominee in the 2024 election.

While demanding for cancellation of the diplomatic passport of Prajwal, the Chief Minister in a letter to Narendra Modi addressed on May 22 and was released to the press on Thursday gave reasons that Prajwal Revanna, a grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda, despite the issue of Look Out circular, a Blue Corner notice and two notices by the investigating officers under section 41 A CrPC, the Hassan MP has been in ‘hiding’ after he fled the country on April 27 and has managed to remain in 'hiding.'

Siddaramaiah brought to the notice of the Prime Minister that the State Government has set-up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Criminal Investigation Department has been constituted into the allegations against Prajwal Revanna.

He told Modi that “It is needless to emphasise that such abuse of privileges and deliberate acts of non-cooperation with the legal proceedings deserves serious action by the Union Government or its instrumentalities so as to secure the presence of the accused to face investigation and trial.”

Siddaramaiah expressed displeasure over his earlier letter to the Prime Minister which has not been acted upon on his demand to get diplomatic passport to Prajwal cancelled despite the gravity of the situation and the allegations against Prajwal have not only shocked the conscience of the people of Karnataka but have also caused a nationwide concern.
