Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for finally speaking out on the NEET paper leak issue, while taking a swipe at him for allegedly remaining silent on the matter for so long. The CM was reacting to PM Modi's announcement on Thursday that a bill containing strict provisions against paper leaks will be introduced in Parliament next week.
In a video message, Modi also stated that the contours of the bill will be discussed at a Union Cabinet meeting on Friday, where the proposed legislation will be finalised.
Speaking to reporters here, Shivakumar said, "I'm very happy that at least he (PM) has opened up. After about fifteen days or a month, he has opened up. That is important. We all work for the future of our children and youth; at least now he has opened up before the entire country. Thanks to him."
The PM's statement came even as protests against the NEET paper leak spread to various parts of the country, with student outfits, civil society groups and political parties hitting the streets and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while criticising the police crackdown on protesters in Delhi.
