Karnataka CM Asks People To Compulsorily Enumerate In Revision Of Voters List To Avail Govt Benefits

The Chief Minister said officials concerned have been directed to issue residential certificates which are very much needed during the SIR exercise.

BENGALURU: Asking people to take part in “compulsorily” in Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise undertaken by the Election Commission of India beginning shortly in Karnataka, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday cautioned people “If a family head does not have voting right then it would create hurdles is availing Government facilities such as pension and also 5-guarmatees schemes which includes free travel for women in State owned buses, up to 200 units of free power, Rs 2,000 cash benefit for a female head of a family among two others.”

After a lengthy meeting with Ministers and Deputy Commissioners in Bengaluru, Shivakumar directed Ministers/Deputy Commissioners to visit every taluks to guide BLOs to help them in enumeration in SIR exercise and help people are ensured of their voting rights.

“Irrespective of BLOs party affiliations, Ministers and DCs should establish contact with them to help people get their voting rights,” said the Chief Minister and wanted people to compulsorily participate in the ensuing SIR exercise and submit filled forms to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to keep their voting rights intact. BLOs will visit every household thrice to get people enumerated in the voter list and anyone who fails will surely lose their voting rights.

After finding some discrepancies in the functioning of “Gruha Lakshmi” wherein a female head of a family gets Rs 2,000 a month from the State Government and “Gruha Jyothi” to provide up to 200 units of power a family for domestic consumption, Shivakumar said forms will be distributed soon wherein beneficiaries will have t re-apply to avail the benefits under the two schemes of the State Government.

“The move is to curb misuse. Under Gruha Lakshmi, many dead have claimed Rs 2,000 a month from the State Government transferred through Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) while Gruha Jyothi is restricted to domestic users but commercial/business have also made use of the scheme,” he said.
