CID To Investigate Hanur Shoot-out, Tamil Organisation To File Writ Petition

BENGALURU: Investigation into the Hanur shoot out in which 3 suspected poachers were killed by forest patrolling personnel in exchange of fire at Shagya section of Hanur wildlife range of Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary in Chamarajanagar district will be taken-up by sleuths of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the order of Director General and Inspector General of Police Dr M.A. Saleem. The order was issued on Monday.

In his order DG asked the sleuths of CID to submit a detailed report to the office. Saleem asked the Superintendent of Police, Chamarajanagar to hand over the case files to Investigating Officer of CID personally.

Various cases have been registered at Ramapura police station, Hanur and Kollegala Rural police station. At Hanur and Kollegala Rural police stations, cases have been registered pertaining to the Prevention of Damages to Public Property Act, 1984.

It may be recalled here that 3 suspected poachers were shot dead by night patrolling personnel attached to Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary on August 15 at around 5.30 am. In retaliation to the killings, villages on the fringes of the Sanctuary attacked Anti-Poaching Camps (APCs) using dynamites/gelatin sticks, damaging forest personnel quarters besides two-wheelers and four-wheelers belonging to personnel and forest department.

Meanwhile, Tigers of Justice, a Tamil organisation of Hanur taluk, stated that the members will begin a signature campaign against the shoot out and to submit the signatures collected to the perusal of Union and State Government officials. The members of the organisation stated in a press release to file a writ petition in the High Court of Karnataka.
