Choked Drains And Heavy Rainfall Result in Flooding of Several Residential Areas in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Heavy rainfall and choked storm water drains in Bengaluru city cause flooding of several localities particularly in Mahadevapura and Kengeri regions. The flooding not only threw normal life out of gear but claimed 5 cattle in Kengeri falling under Raja Rajeshwari Zone of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
However, 29 lakes falling under Yelahanka Zone were full to their capacity. Chowdeshwari Layout vicinity of Yelahanka recorded 103 mm of rainfall and BBMP officials stated Kendriya Vihar Apartment and Ramanashree California valley reported no waterlogging in the region. It may be recalled here Kendriya Vihar Apartment was under water previous year and the residents had to be evacuated by BBMP officials.
Kengeri falling under Raja Rajeshwari zone of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recorded 103 mm caused waterlogging in the region after Vrishabhavathi River overflowed and owing to overflowing River about 100 houses in Kote Layout of the region were inundated in the incessant rainfall in Bengaluru city from 10 pm on Sunday to 6 am on Monday.
As per BBMP reports, Chowdeshwari Nagar falling in Yelahanka zone received about 103 mm of rain followed by Koramangala in South Zone recorded a rainfall of 96 mm, HAL Valley of Mahadevapura zone received 93 mm, Bagalagunte valley of Dasarahalli zione received 89 mm, Cottonpet of West Zone received 89 mm, Banaswadi Valley of East Zone received 85 mm and HSR Layout of Bommanahalli received 73 mm.
Under Raja Rajeshwari Zone, about 100 houses in Kote Layout of Kengeri were inundated after rain water Vrishabhavathi valley received heavy rainfall. BBMP personnel engaged 4 pumps to drain out water from the houses. Residents reported inundation in Hemmigepura of Vijayashree Pura after storm water drains in the region overflowed.

Sai Layout was completely surrounded by rain water in Mahadevapura Zone. Knee deep height water had engulfed the layout making it difficult for the residents to wade through the waterlogged roads. The knee deep water level in Sai Layout damaged several vehicles.
In Mahadevapura Zone, about 10 locations were inundated in rain water and BBMP personnel pressed 6 tractors, 2 earthmovers, 3 vehicles belonging to Fire and Emergency Services, two boats belonging to SDRF were made available. Meanwhile, the residents of Sai Layout were offered meals and drinking water by BBMP officers.
The heavy rains brought down 27 trees and 43 branches in various parts of the city and BBMP personnel cleared them for free flow of traffic.
