Chicken Rice To Be Part Of Menu For Street Dogs Under BBMP
In each zone, about 500 street dogs will be served with egg/chicken rice and to feed street dogs, BBMP has made budgetary allocation besides grants to run the programme.

Bengaluru:Under Street Dogs Feeding programme, officials of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon start serving egg/chicken rice to street dogs in its zones and tenders have been invited.
As per an estimate, there are about 2.79 lakh street dogs under BBMP limits and under the street dog feeding programme, street dogs will be served either egg/chicken rice which will be decided by the veterinarians. Feeding time will be either between 6 am to 11 am or 8 am to 11 am.
In each zone, about 500 street dogs will be served with egg/chicken rice and to feed street dogs, BBMP has made budgetary allocation besides grants to run the programme.
The idea to serve egg/chicken rice to street dogs to with a intention to bring down human-dog conflicts in Bengaluru where some areas have often dog bites to humans, reduce their scavenging/aggressive/ attacking behavior in them, aid the Special Commissioner of Health and Sanitation Vikas Suralkar Kishore here on Thursday.
Feeding spots will be identified to feed the street dogs and the programme will run in coordination with volunteers and locals, he said. “Feeding street dogs is part of the programme to reduce dog bites and rabies along with vaccination of street dogs,” the Health Commissioner said.
He said earlier BBMP ran a street feeding programme feeding about 1,000 street dogs a day in its zones under BBMP and after finding some gaps in the programme and based on the experience from the previous experiment, a feeding programme provision has been made this year.
“The agency fixed to feed street dogs will have to submit daily reports on the number of dogs fed each day,” he said.
