BENGALURU: Taking a cue from After Booth Levels Officers who took to distribution of Enumeration Forms in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls in Karnataka, some meter readers attached to Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) have made a temple in Ramakrishnagar of Mysuru city to verify documents of beneficiaries under the State Government’s Gruha Jyothi’ scheme to supply 200 units of power to a household specifically for domestic users.

Repeated calls to Managing Director of CESC M.S. Archana went unanswered. A source brought to the notice of Deccan Chronicle on Monday that re-verification of documents was conducted at a temple in ‘E’ and ‘F’ block of Ramakrishna Nagar instead of a door-to-door exercise. At the temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh, beneficiaries stood in queue with documents required for verification to continue to derive up to 200 units of power.

The CESC staffers had placed two tables and were going about their verification job. Some beneficiaries’ alerted their neighbours to get their verification of documents done at the temple through CESC meter readers. The mouth of publicity made beneficiaries gather at the temple.

The source had come across “pool” verification on Saturday and suspected that CESC staffers have taken to “pool” verification since a fortnight when re-verification was initiated by the State Government to eliminate misuse, remove multiple meters under a single person’s name, commercial establishments attached to domestic meters among others.

The source questioned “Without a door-to-door verification, how can officials concerned come to know who all have attached their domestic meters to use for commercial purposes?” and stated “Many households’ have rented shops in their buildings to run beauty parlours, boutiques, ATMs among others.”
