Case Filed Against BJP MLA Sharanu Salagar Over Unpaid Election Loan

Salagar allegedly borrowed Rs 99 lakh from a businessman for election expenses

Bidar : A case has been registered against BJP MLA from Basavakalyan Sharanu Salagar for allegedly failing to repay a loan taken during the 2023 Assembly elections.

According to sources the complaint was filed by businessman Sanju Sugure at the Basavakalyan City Police Station in Bidar district, following directions from a Bengaluru ACJM court.

It is alleged that Salagar allegedly borrowed Rs 99 lakh from Sugure for election expenses and assured to repay it. Despite repeated demands, the MLA allegedly failed to repay the amount. The complainant said that on September 14, 2025, Salagar agreed in the presence of elders to return the money and issued a cheque.

The complainant further alleged that when he visited Salgar’s residence on September 16 to confirm depositing the cheque, an altercation broke out and he was allegedly threatened and abused.

The cheque, deposited on September 19, was returned as the MLA’s account with the Bank had reportedly been closed.

Following this, Sugure approached the Bengaluru ACJM court, which directed the police to register a case. A case has been booked at the Basavakalyan City Police Station.
