Bomb Threat Mails To Mangaluru RTO, Gadag District Administration Office Turns Out Hoaxes

A case has been registered at the South Police Station and an investigation has been launched to trace the source of the email

Mangaluru/Gadag: Emails claiming that explosives had been planted at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Mangaluru and the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Gadag were received by the respective offices on Monday, but both were later found to be hoaxes, police said.
Giving details Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Reddy said that following the threat mail, police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) were rushed to the spot. The premises were thoroughly searched, but no suspicious or explosive material was found.
The threat was later confirmed to be a hoax and normalcy was restored after the security check.
A case has been registered at the South Police Station and an investigation has been launched to trace the source of the email.
Meanwhile, according to sources, the email that was posted in the early morning claimed that a terrorist group teamed up with ex-cadres of an outfit had planted the remote blast operation. It is said the email lacked clarity and coherence, making passing references to some politicians and officials in Tamil Nadu without establishing any clear context or link.
A similar email was received at the Deputy Commissioner’s office and that too was found to be a hoax after thorough search.
It is said that the mail to Mangaluru and Gadag have come from the same source.
The mail claimed that bombs had been planted at five locations within the Gadag district administration office. The threat message briefly created an atmosphere of tension.
Following the bomb threat, the district administration building was searched with the assistance of the dog squad and the bomb disposal squad.
“No bomb has been found. It was a hoax mail,” SP told Deccan Chronicle.
