BJP’s Janakrosha Yatre to Culminate at Hubballi on May 11

The yatre, aimed at highlighting what the party calls the “failures” of the state government, will witness participation from Union ministers and BJP leaders

Hubballi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will conclude its state-wide Janakrosha Yatre with a massive public meeting at the Moorusavira Matha Grounds in Hubballi on May 11 at 4 PM. The yatre, aimed at highlighting what the party calls the “failures” of the Congress-led Karnataka government, will witness participation from senior Union ministers and prominent BJP leaders from the state.

Addressing a press conference at the district BJP office in Hubballi on Monday, N. Ravikumar, Chief Whip of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, said the final leg of the yatre would cover several districts in the coming days—Kolar on May 7, Tumakuru and Chitradurga on May 8, Ballari and Vijayanagara on May 9, and Chikkaballapur on May 10—before culminating in Hubballi.

Ravikumar launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, calling it a “development-zero” administration. “There has been no visible progress since the Congress assumed power. BJP and JD(S) MLAs are being deliberately denied development funds,” he alleged.

He squarely blamed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for what he termed as a collapse in governance. “The CM has no control over the administration. Officials are unresponsive, and law and order have deteriorated. Crimes such as murder, theft, and extortion are on the rise. Karnataka is turning into a safe haven for anti-national elements,” he warned.

Ravikumar also accused the government of burdening citizens with price hikes and new taxes. “The prices of over 50 essential services and commodities have gone up, from birth and death certificates to garbage collection fees,” he said.

Criticizing the government’s handling of the agriculture sector, he alleged that farmers have been neglected. “The Rs 4,000 subsidy under the crop insurance scheme was scrapped, scholarships for farmers’ children have been halted, fertilizer prices increased, and power transformer rates hiked. This government is breaking the backbone of the farming community,” he charged.

He further alleged that Dalit communities were being ignored, citing irregularities in the allocation of Rs 39,000 crore under the Scheduled Castes Sub-Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan (SCP/TSP), and mismanagement in the Valmiki Development Corporation.

Ravikumar also accused the government of engaging in "minority appeasement," pointing to enhanced budgetary allocations for the Muslim community, the introduction of a 4 percent reservation in government projects, and a Rs 6,000 monthly honorarium for Imams. “In the process, the majority community is being sidelined,” he said.

Referring to recent law and order concerns, he cited the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru and accused the Congress government of targeting Hindutva voices. “There is a systematic attempt to suppress those who protect cows, celebrate Ganesh festivals, or assert Hindu identity. The government must reveal how many Muslims have been booked under rowdy-sheets. Why this selective approach?” he asked.

Several senior BJP leaders were present at the press meet, including Assembly Deputy Opposition Leader Aravind Bellad, MLA Mahesh Tenginkai, State General Secretary P. Rajeev, and Disciplinary Committee Chairman Lingaraj Patil, among others.
